Summer heat.

A hot wind is blowing from France... Last Wednesday at midnight, the temperature was still 30 degrees. Inside the house It is cooler than at sea!

A hot wind is blowing from France..... Poor plants. The Hydrangea is limping in the border. It is way too hot and way to dry too. I water them in the morning; it's survival.

A hot wind is blowing from France.....The Romneya in the front garden really appreciates the heat. This plant originates from California and knows how to deal with some heat. It flowers exuberantly against the house.

A hot wind is blowing from France..... Both fruits and flowers are suddenly quite cheap. I buy both! Delicious.

A hot wind is blowing from France..... Tour de France bikers from all over the world will ride from Utrecht to Zeeland and finish on Neeltje Jans, close where we live. Next morning they will go to France; strong headwinds predicted.

A hot wind is blowing from France..... A cat is sleeping in the shade under a car. When I take a photo of the cat it looks disturbed at me. "Go to the beach,"  its eyes says.

A hot wind is blowing from France.....

I do what the cat suggested. I take a dive in the sea!

  1. Hi Hetty, I heard about the heat from my mom, who still lives in Germany. I am completely surprised that you are able to grow romneya coulteri in your area, since I would have assumed that your climate is way too cold and wet for this beauty to thrive. Can you overwinter this plant?
Your garden looks very pretty despite the heat, I love especially the wide shot in the third photo from the bottom. Great that the sea is close to you so that you can just go there to cool off!
    Warm regards,

  2. Hi Hetty! What lovely pictures you are sharing. I´m a little bit envious , only 1 € for such lovely roses. The cat has found a good shady place.
Have a nice weekend / Marika

  4. Ah, yes, you get hot winds blowing in from France... but in Spain, we get hot winds blowing in from the Sahara Desert!

Your rose arbor is absolutely spectacular! I have been after my husband to make/buy me one. Is yours store-bought? What rose is it?

    Enjoy the beach!
