Dear garden girls,
This month I want to challenge you with an experiment. An experiment in
the garden or on the balcony. Why? No reason why, just FOR FUN!
For example, plant a cauliflower in the front yard, or a peanut in the soil.
Sprinkle the bird feed into the border and see what will germinate. Buy a
half-dead plant in the sales corner or cut a fainted plant in half. Or even cut
it once more! You will see things happening that will surprise you.
Of course you will get a lot of comment on your experiments. That will
make you feel REBELISH and that might make you happy!
Personally, I am always “in” for an experiment. Last May I bought 10
tulips bulbs in a stall in Amsterdam. The vendor said it still was possible to
plant these. (As you might know, usually you plant bulbs in October). So I planted
the bulbs. Result of the experiment: 5 out of 10 tulips were growing, but no
flower appeared. Experiment failed.
Another experiment. Planting potatoes in a container pot. (Tip for the
balcony). From each pot I harvested 1.5 kg of potatoes. A potato breeder will
laugh at it, but I'm very happy with my self-grown potatoes! Experiment successful.
I have also sown corn in your example garden. This corn will get green
seeds. GREEN seeds! Can you imagine that on your plate? You will hear about it
later in the season.
As you have noticed, it does not matter whether the experiment works or fails.
EVERY experiment will make you happy.
So now it is up to you dear garden girls. I am really curious about your
CRAZY experiments. JUST DO IT AND FEEL
HAPPY!
New followers a warm welcome.
Your example garden. All poppies are over now.
Just one papaver somniferum in flower.
Lathyrus, still not a huge succes. It is simply to dry in the garden.
My experiment: planting tulips in May. No way!
Potatoes in a container pot.
I had 1,5 kg. Not much, but they tasted really good.
Latest experiment: Corn.....
...... with green seeds. Exciting!
Finally:
Some photo's I have received from two young garden girls:
Garden girl M grows papaver and poppies in a container. I never dared to do so. It is a very successful experiment M!
No, it is not about you diva cat Y! It is about the plant next to you.
Garden girl M grows Day Lilies on her balcony. They will start flowering within a few days. What a great experiment in such a small container. Super M!

Pretty pink poppy. The green corn experiment is unusual. It's nice to experiment and see the results.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the corn from green seeds and I love the pink poppy.
ReplyDeleteThe pink poppy is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to plant potatoes in a container garden! Aren't you clever?

Dear Hetty,
ReplyDeleteI already wondered what happened to your tulip experiment. Regarding the Lathyrus, I too sowed many seeds this year. They germinated, developed into nice plants, but then the heat came and well I would say experiment failed. I really hope I will have more success with them next year. In England they looked so amazing, but here it was so extremely hot and dry and they don´t like this weather. So I hope next year it won´t be that hot again.
Best wishes,
Lisa
The weather was extremely hot this year. Next year we will try again! Groetjes Hetty
